Heritage families enjoyed a wonderful Father’s Day service last Sunday.

There were smiles everywhere as we honored dads. We heard testimonies about the impact dads make on our lives. We heard dads talk about the joys and challenges of being a father.

We had some great special music : “I wanna be just like You, cause he wants to be like me” (Thanks, guys!).

Most of all, we laughed uproariously at the latest video from our Heritage kids. Here it is. Enjoy!

Mother’s Day was terrific at Heritage!

We had a great time honoring all the moms in our service. We had gifts for everybody’s mother. We thanked them for their contribution to our lives. We prayed for God’s special blessings upon them. We encouraged them during the preaching hour.

And…we showed this cool video clip. It was a hoot! If you missed it, here it is. Enjoy a few moments with some of our Heritage kids.

At Heritage, we believe in NEW BEGINNINGS! The Christian faith is all about new beginnings. The Bible is a book of new beginnings. And, well, that's the point of Easter. On that first Easter, the followers of Jesus were discouraged thinking all was lost. Then, Jesus rose from the dead! it was the beginning of a brand new era. From that moment, the message of the church was..."Jesus can make you new! You can be born again. You can have a New Beginning!"

Easter Sunday may just be your best opportunity to experience your own New Beginning. Are you curious or intrigued by the possibilities of a real relationship with God? Is your life or marriage headed in the wrong direction? Have you been thinking, "Our family needs to find a good church"? Well, here's your chance. Round up the whole family and come to our Easter service at Heritage. I promise you will be encouraged and uplifted by the service. I promise you will hear a clear and powerful message of hope. Good things happening in the Men's Ministry @ Heritage -

Every Thursday @ 7pm, men from Heritage meet @ Chad Minnick's house for a challenging time of spiritual "guy stuff". These are our "Man Up!" meetings. We have a great group of guys who come each week for teaching and discussion of issues directly relating to our role as men. Let's face it. There are lots of challenges facing the guy who wants to become a godly man today! These men's group meetings will inform, instruct, "stretch", and equip you for that calling.

We are presently using Stu Weber's book "Tender Warrior" as a resource. It's an awesome call to authentic spirituality and biblical manhood. So, guys... Want in? Just show up at Chad's house on Thursday @ 7pm or call him at 425.327.3602 for info.

"Happy Ever After" small group marriage study happening NOW @ Heritage -

Every Sunday at 2:30pm, a group of 25-30 people meet to learn how to make their marriages better. We are working through the books you see posted here. "Every Man's Marriage" and "Every Woman's Marriage".

These books are dynamite! Pastor Minnick says, "In 37 years of ministry, I've never seen books that "hit the bulls-eye" like these two books. If you come to this class and apply the things you learn here, you WILL have a better marriage!"

This class is having a dramatic impact! Maybe you want to hear it from a couple that is participating in the class. Following one of the chapters in the book, the men had a homework assignment. The assignment called for each man to "interview" his wife asking hard questions about the vitality of their marriage. Here's a report from one of the husbands:

"We were only able to go over the first 2 questions (there are 25!). I believe Carmen was very honest with me. At first, she wasn't sure whether to answer the questions based on how I had done in the past, or how I've been doing recently. I told her to look at all the past, since the changes in my life are so new since I trusted Christ. I told her I need to know how to work on meeting her most important desires for our marriage. I had to use the book to explain the things we are learning about "oneness in marriage" and "honoring her essence". It was a really good night of talking and sharing. Probably the closest we have been in years!" - David

Beth Moore's excellent Bible Study "Esther - It's Tough Being A Woman" is going on RIGHT NOW at Heritage. The group meets every Wednesday at 7pm @ the church. It's an evening of teaching and discussion that is filled with life-changing principles drawn from one of the truly great stories in scripture - the story of Esther. Project Blessing...a new ministry of Heritage!

Most of us have been there before.

Life is good until a few things start to go wrong. Loss of a job, an unexpected illness or death in the family. The truth is sometimes bad things happen to good people.

That’s why we have the Blessing Project. A couple times a month, we like to find someone who has hit a rough patch in life and simply bless them.

No big fanfare. No strings. Just a random and unilateral blessing.

Jesus said “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35)

In the book of James we read that “pure religion” is to “visit the fatherless and widows” in their time of need.

So, in today’s uncertain economic times, when so many are facing layoffs, foreclosures and household budget crises, let us remember how much we are blessed, and look to bless others.

Answers:

1. How often do the classes meet?

There are 13 class sessions meeting one day per week.

2. How long is each class session?

We suggest two hours for each session, and each is independent of the others.
Part One, taught by Dave Ramsey on DVD, teaches you how to make wise financial decisions based on Scripture.

Part Two of each class session is a small-group discussion. The design of the discussion groups helps you apply the principles to your daily life. Members hold each other accountable, build friendships, and support one another. Since personal finance is 80% behavior, this small-group format ensures that class members realize finance is more than just math.

3. What is the average size of the class?

The video portion of the class is unlimited. However, during the discussion time, break down into 8-12 families, plus a coordinator, for each small group.

4. If I miss one class, can I make it up?

The coordinator can work with you to make up that lesson by allowing you to take the video lesson home with you, as long as you return it the following class. There may be a deposit required to borrow a lesson on DVD.

5. What is included in the FPU Membership Kit?

What Does The Bible Say About Money?

Almost everyone agrees that the Bible contains great advice about life, from improving your marriage to getting along with your boss at work. But does the Bible really say much about money? Does it really give us advice that we can apply to our own life in today's world?

The Good News is Yes! Absolutely! We believe the Bible is as relevant and helpful today as when it was written, and God has a lot to say about money. Did you know money is mentioned in the Bible over 800 times? God must be pretty serious about this subject to talk about it that much.

In fact, Jesus says in Luke 16:11, "So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?" It appears from this verse that God uses money as a test of our management and stewardship skills before entrusting us with spiritual things. See more below.

Money in the Bible

1. Proverbs 13:22 "A good man leaves an inheritance to his childrens' children" indicating that God wants us to make a difference, financially, in our family tree.

2. Proverbs 21:20 "In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has." This gives us an idea of how God wants us to save for a rainy day, to set something back for safekeeping.

3. Proverbs 22:7 states that "The rich rule over the poor, And the borrower is servant to the lender." Really? The Bible discourages debt? Does God really want me to pay my debts off and avoid debt?

4. Luke 14:28 "For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it." Does Jesus really want me to save up and pay for the things I buy?

5. Matt. 6:24 "You cannot serve both God and money".

If money is this important to God, why are there so few Sunday school classes on this topic? Why don't we see lots of small group studies on "Managing Your Finances" or "Getting Out of Debt"? Why aren't there more sermons in this area?

There are many reasons, but the top reason is that most people don't realize how much of a problem managing money is for the average family. Look at the statistics below:

Financial Statistics

1. Marital Problems - 37 percent (the highest rate) of marital problems derive from financial situations

2. Cash Flow - 70 percent of all consumers live paycheck to paycheck, meaning they run out of money before the end of the month

3. Savings - The average family would have to use a credit card to pay a $1,500 unexpected expense (ex: home or car repair).

4. Retirement - Nearly half of all Americans (46%) have less than $10,000 saved for their retirement.

It is a problem that affects everyone, inside and outside of the church. In fact George Barna says that the fastest growing churches are teaching about marriage, child rearing, finances, and careers. Money is a serious subject, and God is serious about money, which is why we should study closely what he has to tell us.

Finally, there is something to guide us! A study to take God's wisdom about money and help us apply it to our own lives. It is called Financial Peace University.

Heritage "Ride For The Kids!"

Help us help foster kids in our city!

There are more than 1,000 foster kids living in Snohomish County. These kids are in the system because of an ongoing crisis in their family. They need your help. Right now, the most pressing need is for school supplies. So, HELP US HELP THEM!

When you come for the ride, bring some school supplies for a foster child. You can bring it in a bag or, if you prefer, grab a small school-size backpack & fill it with the items listed on the back of this page. The more that ride, the more we can give!

Here’s the info:
What: Ride to benefit Foster Kids in Snohomish County
When: Saturday, August 30th @ 9am
Where: Meet in the parking lot of Heritage Baptist Fellowship (See map and directions here)
Why: Because we care about kids!
What to do:

Show up at 9am at Heritage
BRING a bag of school supplies for Foster Kids
Enjoy the ride!
Stick around after the ride for a BBQ at 3pm (NO ALCOHOL)

Here’s the plan: We will gather in the parking lot at 9am and ride together to Leavenworth with a couple of stops along the way. We will spend a little time there, then take a leisurely ride back to Monroe arriving at Heritage around 3pm.

We’ll end the day with a great BBQ (burgers & hot dogs) on us! Your family is invited to join us for the BBQ.

Ladies Night Out at Heritage

It was an idea the men of Heritage always knew they could pull off.

The ladies weren't so sure.

The men cooked, served, entertained and even babysat while the ladies dined and enjoyed the pampering the evening before Mother's Day.

Even though some of the men said they were only doing it to get similar treatment on Dad's Day, everyone had a blast...even the guys who did all the work!

(Editor's note: Christy Dunn actually provided critical decorating advice to ensure that David Thomas and Shawn Minnick didn't douse the tables with camoflauge dinner napkins and John Deere paper cups. Thanks, Christy!)

The exact dinner menu isn't important, but let's just say it outperformed expectations. Also exceeding expectations was Phil Orton, performing "Superman" (by Five For Fighting) and Shawn Minnick being voted the Ladies Choice award by the audience in the karaoke contest for his heartfelt rendition of "If I Only Had a Brain" from the Wizzard of Oz.

We mourn the passing of Pastor Mike Weeks

We at Heritage mourn the passing and celebrate the life and ministry of Pastor Mike Weeks.

While we miss Mike dearly and feel his loss sharply, we know he is celebrating in Heaven with the Lord and is cheering us on as we remain to labor in God's work.

So strong was Mike's passion to see us serve Christ more, and his daily example to us, that should daily recall the words of the Scripture he often read during Sunday worship, encouraging us to bring the hope of salvation to others, "to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified." Isaiah 61:3

Bridge Crossing in Honduras: Mission Trip '06

This was a bridge crossing a steep gorge between La Esperanza and some of the mountain communities of Ojo de Agua and San Lorenzo, Intibuca, Honduras. We felt fortunate each time we made it safely across this bridge, since it was pretty rickety with loose strips of metal lying atop the supports.

And if the bridge wasn't enough, the steep hill just on the other side was almost as exciting. You had to get a running start, go as fast as you can without slowing once, and make sure you follow the appropriate trail or you would get in the wrong rut, go off the side of the mountain or hit your oil pan on a rock. If you didn't run into any of those complications, you still might not make it to the top because the vehicle may run out of momentum and the incline is too great.

Mike and Debble Lane cross this bridge and ascend that hill more than once a week.

The good news is the bridge is tested twice a day for safety. As you can see, this first test of the day went well.
